PRESIDENT'S LETTER
As we emerge from the Dog Days of Summer, our upcoming Chapter activities are many:
With only a few weeks left from tee-time, our AIA Golf Tournament is rapidly approaching. As the major fundraiser for the El Paso Architectural Foundation, this premier golf outing provides scholarship money and great fellowship for ourselves and our building partners. I can readily attest to the formidable efforts expended by the Golf Committee through the Leadership of its chair, Mr. Bruno Vasquez; they have performed admirably in facilitating this event.
Plans for this year's "Archtober", the month we celebrate all things architecture, are being finalized and look great. On October 9th - 11th the annual Chalk the Block event will be highlighted by an AIA Pavilion; as installation promoting our profession whose construction will be assisted by the public. Please support this public even with you presences and help further the public's understanding of the value of architecture. Additionally, the AIA Design Awards will soon be upon us. More information, especially criteria and project submission dates is forthcoming for this gala event, which always proves to be a super evening.
We are working on participating in an upcoming radio segment of the local "State of the Arts" radio broadcast. This show, which highlights efforts of the local art/design community, is a great forum to get our message out to our community, increasing our exposure and value to the general public.
We are in the later stages of a website reboot, with recent draft reviews revealing a very exciting, intuitive site which will soon be launched. This is an incredibly important effort, as it will be a dynamic means to augment our communication, while providing fresh content to complement our profession to all.
Lastly, I encourage our membership to attend this years upcoming TxA Convention on November 5th - 7th in Dallas, Texas. It's a great opportunity to network with colleagues, obtain some coveted CEUs, and partake in the many slated events.
Continued, and profuse, thanks to the AIA Executive Committee, along with the sub-committees, as they all work tirelessly in support of the chapter in facilitating all these events.
It's a great time to be an architect!
Jim Booher, AIA
